EAVESTAFF MINI : NOTES STICKING. FIX?
Post by tallgreengiant »
I am tantalisingly close to fixing my Eavestaff pianette (c) 1970s having re seated all the draw wires! and am 95% there o a working paino
But there's just 2 notes - and hey would have to be middle "C" and the Bb next to it that "click" and the notes stay on as the damper sticks and doesnt return
I know taking the whole mechanism out is the usual scenario and the nightmare of tuners but just wondered if there was an easier or known fix around this

Sorry I'm not a repairer so could you elaborate vis the swanvesta method and I didn't get the jargon - "CPL with the brush?"
Is this something as a novice I could do or should I ask someone but most won't touch it?!

I've got one in a remote corner of the W Highlands, built into an alcove where you can't raise and lock the lid for access. That was after a 50 mile expedition. Do you wonder that the Scotch tuners take to the uisgebeatha
Any fool can make a piano-- it needs a tuner to put the music in it

CPL Centre pin lubricant available from the supply houses see piano parts link. The CPL will work if your tuner can get the brush to the pin but if not.... As veron as pointed it take so long to take one of theses pianos apart it may be cheaper to buy a new one However, it may not be the centres it could be the key bushing which is a 2 second jobtallgreengiant wrote:Barrie - thanks very much for your reply

swanvesta method: hmm best done on the 5th November and put a few jacket potatoes soaked in garlic butter in the bottom of the piano to enjoy after the piano has finished burning

"swanvesta" - i knew it'd be something technical!
I hope it is the CPL - but also I noted the damper (the reddy/pink felt) does look less on the end of the sticking notes as though maybe its got pushed back, mis-=shaped or just worn so could that be the cause of the sticking?
If so, is changing it a complete no-no requiring total dis-embowelment of piano?

On the Middle C its the white on the end off he damper that is not visible - got the pink felt but not the white on the end
On different keys ( B2) I've got also a couple of sticking hamm, ers that dont fully retract always - is that CPL on the pivots?

oh dear I'm wrestling with the Eavestaff - I need to check and see about the change in direction off the strings but thereare several hammers that dont retract quite on fast or soft repetition of notes. Really I'm wondering if I should just be done and get a good piano
Are ddrop actions frowned upon because they dont provide a decent 'feel' or resistance to develop the fingers?
I dont know -Eavestaff are they worth much? Must admit its a fairly decent sounding piano when it does work but is it worth all the ag?
Would you be interested in taking a peek if you're ever over this way?
