Harmston and Co,

Post by Herb Goldstein »

I acquired a Harmston and Co.,Pontypool upright piano #37069 several years ago. It is is very good condition, has been tuned, but does not have the opera candle holders. Would anyone have an idea of the value of this piano and how one would sell it (other than ebay).

Any information regarding this piano and its manufacture and date would be appreciated.

I deal with piano history, and I have some brief notes about the Harmston firms, how is it described precisely? "& co."? "& son"? "Ltd."?

Valuation is the impossible dream, no-one anywhere will do what you want without seeing it, read

Thanks for your reply. The Piano is labeled "Harmston and Co., Piano and Organ Merchants Aberdare Pontypool Cinderford" at the keyboard. Internally on the cast iron that holds the strings (sorry, I don't know the terminology), it reads "Harmston and Co. Pontypool".

Thank you for your assistance.
Sincerely,

They seem to have appeared in the 1890s, and the name also suggests a date before the 1914 war.
