Damaged in transit, Help

Post by Louby »

Hi all, I am new here and honestly dont know one end of a piano from another!
I recently bought an old upright piano as a surprise for my husband (who does play) as we will shortly be moving to a house where we have room for one, but it seems in my ignorance I may have killed it!

It did require some work, one of the ivory bits is missing from a key and the outside needs attention, but i was told that with a tune up it is perfectly servicable.

However it fell over in transit (onto its back) as it was not strapped in very well and now the left hand side keys (about 10 of them) dont go down!

Any advice would be appreciated, is it now only good for firewood? presumably it may be repairable but is that likely to cost a fortune?

My husband still doesnt know about it so I cant get his opinion!

It may just be that the action has become dislodged in the fall, and a tuner/tech should be able to put it back into position easily.
don't panic; ask the tuner!
I play for my own amazement... :piano;

Was it the fault of the delivery firm that the piano was not strapped in or for whatever reason succeeded in toppling the piano during transit. I think the question is probably rhetorical, in which case, I think they should be forking out for repairs.

Did you contact the delivery company that moved your furniture?

I was under the impression that it was a DIY move...that's why I was a bit gentle. Had I thought it was a professional mover, I too would unleash the dogs of war on 'em!

You would be amazed how many removal company's we reject who ask to be put on the UK Piano Page list of removal company's who don't have insurance and the ones that do quite a lot are not covered for damage to floors and stairs
