Schaff Bros Upright
Post by itsgoodtobeking »
I have a Schaff Bros Co Est 1868, with a serial number of 26114. Can anyone tell me a little about this or direct to a place I can do some research on this specific piano?
I have had it tuned lately and the tuner said it was impressed on how well it sounded.
Thanks,

The number suggests that your piano was made in 1911, but nobody anywhere can give you the life history of every individual piano. I can't tell you if archive material survives for Schaff pianos, but we have no record of it. If it does exist, the best it will tell you is who bought the piano originally. Have a look at my Archives page at www.pianogen.org

Re: Schaff Bros Upright
We have an "Adam Schaff" upright which has a serial number 18641 Chicago, the date Sep 14 '26 and the name O O Sprunger. This piece has been around and has had a poor attempt at restoration. Sounds good except for a couple of bad hammers. Any thoughts on its' true date and rarity?
TIA

Re: Schaff Bros Upright
I just came across a table of dates and first serial numbers for that year:
1885-3100 1903-14500 1909-24100 1915-35800 1921-56000
1890-4600 1904-16000 1910-25100 1916-39000 1922-59000
1895-6580 1905-17800 1911-26200 1917-43000 1923-62000
1900-10000 1906-19000 1912-28300 1918-47000 1924-65000
1901-11500 1907-20500 1913-30400 1919-50000 1926-71000
1902-13000 1908-22000 1914-32600 1920-53000
Looks like my #18641 was built in 1905. The sig and date of 1926 was by O O Sprunger who tuned it 20+ years later.
Hope this is helpful.
