Rud Ibach Boudoir Piano

Post by Renia Anderson »

I would like to know the year of manufacture of a Rud Ibach Boudoir Piano serial no. 3492; model 47995 and, if possible, the name of the most likely piano shop in London whch would have sold similar pianos at the time of the original manufacture.

It is interesting that you say the shorter number is the serial number, and the longer one is a model. Does it say on the piano that this is what they are? They would normally be the other way round. Bearing in mind all the usual problems with relying on numbers for dates, 3492 would suggest 1866, and 47995 would be 1903. Unless you can email me some photos, it is impossible to guess which may be right. I can't recall ever having seen a model number for any make that long, and even 4 digits is uncommon. As for the question of who might have sold it, Ibach was a famous, prestigious maker, and might well have been sold by all the large department stores such as Whiteleys, Harrods, Maples, etc., as well as any or all of the piano dealers.
