Spreche & Soehne Piano Info
I have an old piano which was given to me many years ago. I don't know anything about it. I don't know if it is worth anything and I need to let it go as I am moving and unable to take it with me. Can you tell me anything about it? Here is what I do know. It is an upright. The name on the inside of the piano cover reads Spreche & Soehne, Zurich. The legs are very carved and the wood looks like Burly Maple or Birds Eye Maple. The wood grain is very swirly or marble like. I have pics that I could email someone if they are interested in helping me. Thanks for the help.
P.S. I just found a number on the inside. It is 4004 if that means anything.
Thanks, Bill. The correct spelling is Sprecher. Here is a picture of it.

Yes, that's right. Would this be Sprecher?
1877 The name chanched to "Sprecher & Söhne".
1883 Sprecher died.
No dates of serial numbers are available.

Re: Spreche & Soehne Piano Info
Burr / birds eye maple was popular in the latter part of the 19th Century. Must have been quite special as it is rare to find large enough uniform pieces of burr maple veneer. It is most typically found on mouldings and picture frames of the period.
Burr walnut tended to be used later (burr walnut is easier to obtain in larger veneers and can be matched in easier).
