Pleyel Piano

Post by PhilGV8 »

My daughter has acquired a pleyel piano - serial number 86911 - believed 1885. It is in fair condition, and is a metal framed upright.
Could you please advise if this is of any value?

It is impossible to put a value on a piano without seeing it.
Your local piano tuner is the best person to contact for an
on-site inspection. They are also the people most familiar with local
market forces.

wouldn't touch it with a friend's bargepole
Our mission in life is to tune customers--not pianos.

Any fool can make a piano-- it needs a tuner to put the music in it

A Pleyel of that vintage is relatively easy to find in France with prices ranging from 50€ to max 300€ in good shape & reasonable playing condition.
If your daughter is pleased with her piano that's fine. However, if not particularly playable it's more of a burden rather than an asset, and frankly not worth spending money on.
I was playing the piano in a zoo, when the elephant burst into tears. I said, "Don't you recognize the tune?" He replied, "No, I recognize the ivories!"

If in full working order and only requires tuning fine, would not advise re-conditioning unless the cabinet is of historical importance.
