The published numbers are much higher, starting at 120,000, and no-one anywhere can trace the life history of every piano. Valuation is impossible without on-the-spot inspection. Being based in the UK, I hardly ever see an american piano because, having such a large piano industry in the past, we have never imported many from the U.S.A. except pianolas, and very few make it across the ocean, although there was some increase in the late 1800s. I used to work for Baldwin UK but, other than that, I have only seen old Steinways, and occasional modern uprights like Kimball or Lowrey.
