William De Blaise Info??
Post by Harpsichordvalley »
Hi
We have several instruments, one of which is a newly acquired William De Blaise harpsichord from the 1970's, (not a top spec instrument but we are pleased enough!).
Does anyone know whether it is likely to have steel or soft iron strings and wheres the best place to buy it?
Thanks

I'm sorry, I have no dealings with harpsichords, and very little to do with modern instruments. I would suggest asking one of the specialist harpsichord websites, or early keyboard / early music people.

There was a litle bit about them in the Secret Squirrel Tuners' Section on this site; but only to the effect that they were made by De Blaise at Welmars, and that he smoked Capstan Full Strengths full time! There is a British Harpsichord Society (google it!) and I contacted them a couple of times when I was researching things; they were very friendly and helpful and will tell you more than we'll ever know. I have a de Blaise too...
I play for my own amazement...
