A. Beardmore & Sons piano

I have a piano which has A. Beardmore and Sons/London on it. It seems to be quite old.

It appears that at one time there were candle sconces, one at each side of the top face of the piano. There are now only holes left where they were attatched (if that's what WAS there). Between where the sconces were, there is a Yellow flower & leaf design.

It is definitely an A. in A. Beardmore and Sons/London.......... 2 pedals

The Serial number is 10339.....is anyone able to look up this number in the Pierce Piano Atlas or elsewhere? Thanks.

On the subject of Beardmore, I had an enquiry from Texas recently about an H. Beardmore & Sons upright thought to be about 75 Years old "manufactured expressly for J.D. Cuthbertson & Co., 226-230 Sauchiehall St., Glasgow". The serial number inside the cabinet is #10342.”

I have general lists of London piano firms for every decade. There was a Beard, and a Beardwell, but there is no reference to Beardmore. Unless the firm was very short-lived, the most likely explanation is that it was a London piano, made by one of the wholesale factories, and sold under an alias used by Cuthbertson. See
