Are big or small cups better?

Post by Openwood »

No, not that sort. I need to get some castor cups for my C3 cos it's going on a laminate wooden floor. I don't know whether I should get the 40mm or 80mm ones. Please advise! Also, I was going to get brass ones - are they ok?

Thanks!

70 mm are fine for most grands unless you have very large castors then 100mm

Brass ones look good they are felt backed well the ones we sell are (plug) but... they need polishing unless you spray them with clear cellulose but then they look dull So its head down and  up and get polishing once a month or so for the one who cleans up in your place

45m is a wast of time for a grand

Hmm, not sure I can be arsed to polish them. I like the idea of glass ones - might keep looking for a bit.

if you uses glass ones you will need a foot rest as they do raise the piano by about 20mm

Oh no, I couldn't be doing with that. Thanks for the pointing that out, Barrie. I've gone for some wooden ones. I read somewhere that they're inclined to split but I know someone who's had some for years and they're still fine - the piano was moved recently and the cups showed no signs of wear.

I have never seen any split yet in 30 years

Mine's sat on the same bakelite cups it has had since the 1930s.

Ha, ha, I bet you haven't worked out yet where the fishy smell in your piano room is coming from.
