25 Year U3 Import from Japan with Silent System

Post by janec »

Hi,
I've seen a 25 yr U3 japanese import advertised, with the silent system factory fitted by Yamaha in the last 5 yrs. I've read there can be problems importing japanese pianos this age because of humidity differences, has anyone had experience of this? I also wanted to know if anyone has any experience of retrofitted Yamaha silent systems.
I'm also trying to figure out what maintenance I might need to do on the piano in the next 10 years. The loop cords have been replaced, but not the hammer felts.Does anyone know how much it costs to get the hammers reshaped and felts replaced? Any recommendations of Yamaha technicians near Rickmansworth who would be able to check the piano out for me?
Thanks :)

Never heard of a genuine Yamaha retrofit, but that's not to say they don't exist.

Is it for sale by our wealthy dealer friend in Chorleywood perchance?

The opinion above is purely that of PianoGuy and is simply the opinion of one person ....

If you're buying a piano, try as many as you can and buy the one you like, not a similar one of the same type.
