Technics sx pr 1000 shuts off

Post by erhard »

I have an SX PR1000 technics that suddenly (as electonics often do) stopped working. It works for about a minute and then the sound and screen shut down (though the light stays on behind the screen). I opened up the unit and I noticed on the power regulator board that the transistors are quite warm and on the main board, the regulating transistors are very warm, and in inline resistors right after the transistors are far too hot (not red hot, but far to hot to touch bare handed without burning) I know there is something drawing too much power, but none of the chips on the board are suspiciously warm. I suspect there is something that is connected to the main board is causing the overload, and here is where I get stumped. I have been unable to locate a repair manual online to get a schematic. Has anyone heard of this? Any suggestions on repair? There are no qualified repair facilities in my area. I am capable of the repair if I have the proper information.

Thanks

I'm really not sure what to say to you. Usually athomik who posts on this forum from time to time might have had some specialist advise to give you. The problem is that Technics have stopped producing digital pianos and keyboards, opting to promote their sound entertainment lines instead. I remember hearing something about links between Technics and Panasonic but I'm not sure that latter would stand over a Technics branded item.

Unless a local dealer is willing to work on your model or else direct it to the appropriate facility for service, you could try contacting the Technics website: http://www.decks.co.uk/articles/technics_homepage

Check out this also: Panasonic Technics Centre
voice(01823) 444600
Fax: (01823) 444600

Hankridge Way Riverside Retail Park The Barn, Taunton, TA1 2LR

Did you buy your instrument locally or online? If locally, I'd recommend going back to them for advice first and see if they have any remaining contacts for Technics service dept.

Not sure if this is really helping you though... :?

Thanks for the reply. I purchased the piano in 2001, and I am aware of the panasonic/technics link. I do have a source for parts, just not a qualified tech to work on it anywhere local. I am capable of soldering in transistors and replacing faulty boards, as I build computers and that's what this thing is anyways. Maybe this just goes beyond the scope of this forum, I'm just getting frustrated.

Try sending a PM to athomik and see if he has any more advice for you. He is more technically orientated but hasn't been online for a couple of weeks.
