Rud Ibach Sohn

Post by Alanna »

Hi,

My husband and I have just acquired a piano with our new house and don't really know anything about it. It is a Rud Ibach Sohn, Barmen, Germany, serial number 21082. Any information such as how old it is would be appreciated.

We've actually found that we don't really have room for it and will probably have to get rid of it but I'm not really sure if it's worth trying to sell it or if we should just give it away. It's not in great condition and one of the keys needs repairing as it doesn't play. Any advice would be useful.

The number suggests that it was made in 1890, but I can't comment on its condition without seeing it. Your local tuner is your best option.

Thanks. It's interesting to know it's that old, I know that doesn't mean it's worth anything but I like to think of it havning a bit of a history.

Ibach was a respected German make. (Assuming "Rud Ibach Sohn" is the same as "Ibach"?)

Yes, there was an earlier firm, G. Adolphus Ibach, but Rudolf Ibach is the famous maker, and when he died, the firm continued as Rud. Ibach Sohn.
