Sympathy for me too please

Post by joseph »

Well, I was hoping this holiday to catch up on all my practise, and break the bones of most of the pieces I am playing in the year ahead, like Mendelssohn first concerto and the Franck Violin Sonata (piano part, people  ). However, on Christmas day I was hit with that good old viral lung infection called influenza, and have been virtually bed-ridden ever since. Sucks. Big time.

Who else has a winter bug they'd like to tell us about.

I tell you what, the next time some one says to me 'Ive got a touch of 'flu', I think I'll slap them, because there is simply no such thing. You can have a severe cold, but this feels like it would kill me if I was elderly or asthmatic (i'm not elderly yet and i've never had asthma). The F@&*ing virus has wasted my holiday. There must be an epidemic in Scotland because about 70 percent of my friends are down with it, and a bit hogmanay party has even been called off because of it.

Bad luck, Joseph. I saw some stuff in the papers today about how bad this latest strain is. I've avoided it so far but no doubt I'll be sprayed with germs from all directions the moment school starts again next week. That's what usually happens

Hello Joseph,

Sympathies from here, my parents have both been struck down with this virus and spent Christmas being unable to eat and feeling dreadful.

You're right, there's a world of difference between a cold and 'flu, with 'flu there is absolutely no way you can work through it, you simply won't have the strength. It takes ages to get out of your system as well.

My husband was getting one virus after another and started taking ecinacea (sp?) a few months ago. Touch wood, so far, he's missed this one and hasn't been ill at all since he started taking it. (Famous last words!!)

I'm glad you're sort-of back on your feet now, but you won't be running any marathons for a few weeks yet, and I include Mendelsson in that category!

Hope you feel better soon, Joseph; I think you should have a week off in lieu! (Or in loo if it was the stomachy version...)

Thanks, you're all so kind! (blows kisses, but not germs).

I ventured out to the sales in Dundee today, but couldn't concentrate so had coffee and went home. Imagine not being able to concentrate on new clothes and shiny new shoes?! Oh well!

Yeah, this one starts out as manflu and then goes 'hey buddy, now that we've met, why don't i try to seriously mame or kill you. sound fun?'

I started playing a bit today but coughed on my piano. I'll get the dettol out when i can be arsed. Its an indoor hogmanay for me. Might get some green ginger wine and have a whisky mac.

I've had the aching body, chills and cough and been stuck in bed for three days. Which makes me somewhat aggrieved, as I had the 'flu jab in November. So despite being good and eschewing the alcohol this Christmas, I too will follow Joseph's fine example and get outside a whishky mac. Hic.

Yes, but also if you have iffy lungs (yes) or dickey ticker (no).
