Hopkinson upright #33512

Post by Jef »

I have a beautiful J.& J. Hopkinson upright, serial number 33512, and I am curious as to when it was manufactured. Also, several keys require repair to the action and I'm wondering if anyone knows of a craftsman in the Toronto Canada area capable of this. The exterior is an exquisite burled walnut with a lot of fine carving that is still completely intact. Unfortuantely, the music stand is missing (broken off who knows when) and the 2 brass candle holders are missing although the mounts are still in place, and I'm wondering if there were any way to know what these looked like?

Thanks

I didn't know there was a Grimsby over there, does it smell of fish like ours? The piano number suggests about 1871, but the published dates are not accurate. For example 26917 is 1872, so yours is later. Have a look at the Numbers page at www.PianoGen.org

It is not possible to know what each individual piano's sconces (candle-holders) looked like, they were not standard for any given model, and some customers chose their own. Even if we knew, the chances of finding a match are minimal, so grab any pair that comes along!
