Hi all. I've always wanted to play the piano and been unable to have a piano due to space. So i bought myself a yamaha PSR E313 in an effort to try and start to learn. I won't be able to have lessons until into the new year sometime so i'm looking for advice on the best way to teach myself the basics.
What training aids would people recommend? Books dvds etc.
Is there anything like guitar tab that you can get songs in for the piano so i can start playing tunes even if they are watered down so that my interest doesn't wain?
Any help is gratefuly appreciated.
Thanks.

Here is a good list of resources to learn how to play piano on your own. It includes a recommendations for a few piano instruction DVD's, piano learning software, and self teaching books.

I don't want to make it seem too much as if I'm promoting my own shop; but what the heck it's completely free so I reckon that don't matter.
My blog http://tutorialpiano.blogspot.com/ is full of tips and trics and know how on alternatives for learning the piano on your own when a starter; e.g. playing by ear, video tutorial, piano software, books, ... still working on it but there's some on it already

Hi Mase, i just want to know if you read tabs or just play by ear, or just know the piano chords or can read the solfage together with its tempo/beats? If you reads tabs, there's lots of books available online..If you're just play by ear, i suggest you find yourself a piano teacher, becoz piano teacher knows what emphasize on piano learning to you.
I hope this comment helps.
