Berry series 338

Post by Kismet »

I have recently been handed down a Berry 'overstrung' piano. Inside it has serial number 40347 and above the keys on the left hand side it reads 'series 338'.

The piano has been 'stored' in a garden shed for many years and looks very tired.

A few questions:
1) Is it worth reconditioning as the wood has many scrapes and digs.
2) What's a ball park figure for tuning and such ?
3) How old is it ?

Many thanks.

The 338 was introduced in 1938, and the number suggests that yours was made in 1939. Nobody anywhere can guess its condition or value without on-the-spot inspection. Where in the world are you? Tuning in the UK is often around fifty pounds. Before repolishing it, get a tuner to check that it is worth that expense.

I used to do loads of work around Havering, still go there a few times a year. Email if you need a tuner.
