Piano Insurance
Household insurance premium just doubled since including my piano as a specified item.
Call me old fashioned if you like, but it's not exactly a high risk item that's easy to steal and living on a hill there's precious little chance of a flood.
So any recommendations for specialist piano insurance please or reasonable household insurer when it comes to including pianos?

I can recommend Norwich Union. After my piano was completely rebuilt I was advised to insure it at the value of a new replacement. This meant a value which was three times the previous insured value. The increase in premium was about £40 per year. NU suggested that there was no chance of it being stolen (3 of Piano Logistics' finest had to struggle to move it!), so the only risk of damage was fire or flood.

Pianos are high risk I look at insurance jobs at least once a month.
Floods from outside
Floods from above hot water is a killer radiators and en suite bathrooms the biggest culprits
Pest infestation (moths and mice )
Fire damage
Smoke damage (modern fires have a lot of toxic fumes which can coat the inside of the piano)
And the worst is burst internal raw sewage pipes which explode they are nasty most homes built in the 70s have them including mine
They do sometime get stolen but that is normally large houses that get the everything taken
insurance company's have paid out a lot on pianos the last 2 years with all the big floods

We do a lot of insurance work. Sometimes the insurance company cause more problems by wasting time and telling customers to do silly things. Avoid companies which have call centres abroad as these can take upto 2 months by which time the piano is too far gone.
