What make and how old is my piano?

Post by Matt »

Hi All, I have just got the piano that used to be round my parents house. I learnt to play on it 30 years ago while I was a child. My parents got the piano second hand from a police station in 1979, but the only remaining piece of identification is a trade mark badge on the lid and a serial number inside the piano top. I would be really interested to find out the make of the piano and to find out how old it is. Please click on the link below for a picture of the trade mark badge, the serial number and a picture of the piano itself. Any help will be greatly appreciated. When you click on the link, a folder will appear, click on the folder and you will be able to see the 3 pictures...

The "badge" looks like a medal from an Exhibition in Chile, perhaps 1875 or 1884. This must have been awarded to the piano's maker (whoever that was) and would be pictured on his pianos made after that event. In 1884, Richard Lipp pianos received a medal from an exhibition in Chile.
