Cracks in the Pin block of Bechstein V grand but keeps tune
I have chance of a Bechstein Model V grand - plays well tuned to A440 but it has a few cracks in the top of the pin block the underneath has no cracks. It keeps its tune well - something inside me tells me the cracks are a disaster waiting to happen and to walk away - can anyone enlighten me.
Thanks

Quite often it just the decorative veneer that sits on top of the plank that has split

Cracks in the wrest plank are only really to worry if they are deep cracks more than .5cm. As Barry says, its normally the top veneer which has cracked and its only decorative. If it holds tuning well, don't worry. If its ever re-pinned, you can have the top lightly sanded and varnished and also use wrest pin washers to hide some of the surface cracks.
Cracks in the frame are more a worry.
