Eavestaff mini piano string replacement

Post by David von Janowski »

I have the task of replacing the 'middle C' string on my loved one's Eavestaff 'pianette' mini piano.
1) Can anyone advise on where to obtain a replacement string.
2) Is the piano worth 'repairing'? Having trawled the forums there appears to be conflicting opinions about this. The piano is to be used for lessons rather than 'serious' playing.

1. Get your piano tech to do it.
2. No throw it away they are grotty pianos.

Can you describe the layout of the piano? Is it the type with the tuning pins under the keyboard or are they inside the piano in the usual place?

Not *all* Eavestaff minis are grotty.

Drop actions and short strings make for a 2nd rate set up in my book!

They do in mine too, especially if made by the Yanks, but the Eavestaff Mini with the '50s "Festival of Britain" style case and slopey front is decent.

Eavestaff mini piano string replacement

The tuning pins are under the keyboard.

The alternative is to buy something like a secondhand Bentley 6 octave small piano which I believe to be an 'acceptable' instrument, for less than the cost of a string and tuning the Eavestaff.

Many thanks to all those who replied.

A Kemble 6-octave would be better if you can find one.

Unless the Eavestaff's in a ghroooovy colour or has chrome lamps, ditch it and revert to plan B!

Eavestaff mini piano string replacement

The piano has been identified as having the serial number 2427 so may have been made in around 1934... so..... perhaps after all replace the middle C string and have it tuned. Not sure if such an old piano is that rare. Does anyone have any ideas ?

No, it isn't rare, but has antique interest. As a piano, though...no, sorry!
