Scuff marks

Can I get scuff/light scratch marks on a black polyester finish Yam C3 sorted out by a general French polisher or would it need a specialist?

It's limited to two small areas, both about the size of a match box which I stupidly failed to notice when it was delivered. Any ball park ideas of cost?

Depends how deep. If its very light it may buff out but if its too deep then its a 2 visit job as the repair material needs to set over night or it will sink. Im doing a small repair on a fall top next week about the size of a half pence piece ( for those of you who can remember them). Cost for that is £45 x 2. Probably should be more due to material costs. If your finger nail will snag on it running over it at 90 degrees to the scratch its a 2 visit job. If not then probably a one visit job.

mdw - thanks for the swift reply! It's not deep at all - you wouldn't know it was there by running fingers over it - so hopefully just a one visit job!

I must admit I've turned into Private Pike at the prospect of putting Brasso on a polyester finish, but if you chaps use it, I'll summon up some courage from deep deep down! What's the best method then? Just a regular cloth for application and a non-abrasive cloth for buffing?

The polyester is normaly a couple of mill thick. What ever you use needs to have a VERY VERY VERY fine abrasive in it ( something like TCut is far too rough you will just add more scratches ). Remember with black you are looking at the reflection in the surface of the poyester, not through to the veneer underneath so its less forgiving.

No idea never tried it as Ive only ever used the specialist materials. I suppose it depends on how corse the abrasive in brasso is.

Try putting but on a clean cotton cloth. Rub over the mark a bit then wipe off with a clean cloth. If you can see marks that were not there before then its time to call in someone with the right kit. If not carry on and see if you can get the marks off. HOWEVER I have no idea if the solvent in brasso will affect the polyester and therefore take no responsibility if it does.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is no way you will ever see the brasso after its polished off, honestly, I use it all the time for those annoying little book marks on the sides of the music desk of my brodmann, also is great for polishing the name

Bluthners have been known to use it after a piano comes in to the showroom from the factory and it works a treat

Hey openwood, why don't you buy Yamaha Unicon, this is a Yamaha polish product escpecially for these kind of problems....

It solved mine!

Another suggestion is to use the coloured wax/polish material you get for cars. I can't remember the name, but it's like T-Cut, only coloured. I think it's called Color Magic.

When my Yamaha was delivered, one of the white keys had a distictive mark on it. When the tech came, he was going to go into the local ironmonger for Braso, but he saw I had a white car and asked if I had any car polish. I got the white Color Magic from my garage and he polished out the blemish on the key.

Actually, I can't even tell which key it was now.

I've not tried the Yamaha stuff, but I've had some good results with Meguiar's "No17 Clear Plastic Cleaner" followed by their "No10 Clear Plastic Polish" for slight scuff/swirl marks.

If you want to do the job properly ask the guys at Heckschers. They will tell you exactly what to do and tell you what the correct materials for the job are.

Also, Yamaha Unicorn polish seems to be discontinued. Back to Brasso!!
