Piano made for Franz Joseph I?

Post by FuZii »

This piano is considered to be one of the contributions to Franz Joseph I made by the famous R.Gors & Kallmann . Additionally, there is an unfolded Crown-like pattern and the logo of Hapsburg Family (Double-head Eagle) on the front. The two most bass strings were broken, but it has been repaired by the player.

Sorry, we can't help you with valuation or selling, this is a history forum. It sounds like a job for a major auction house, provided you can PROVE that it was made for Franz Joseph 1. I would have thought it was a later piano. What sort of evidence do you have? And what is the serial number of the piano?

Yep, here is a serial number 01143, and I calculate the piano's age (1881 - 1901) by this link:http://www.besbrodepianos.co.uk/pianose ... r/gors.htm

The earliest published date of a Gors & Kallmann number is 4000 at 1908, any early ones are estimated, and anyway, a twenty-year period is not a date. Furthermore, I cannot ever recall a serial number beginning with a zero, so I would advise you to look around in the piano for more numbers, and read the Numbers page at www.PianoGen.org

If you know how to remove the action safely, it may be marked with the action makers' name and number, and we may be able to date this.

I return to my question - what is your evidence that this piano was made for Franz Joseph 1?
