Collard opinions?

Post by Nutroast »

Does anyone have any comments on Collard & Collard?

I've seen one at a good dealer (ie, some assurances rather than a private seller), it's cross-strung and underdamped. I'm a beginner and will probably be looking at replacing it in a few years from now, once I've saved up a bit. So is this a good make for starters? I've decided I truly can't afford to buy anything new at the moment but am hacked off with going to someone else's house to practice on a woefully out of tune instrument.

Appreciate your general thoughts on this maker, good, bad or ugly!

Thank you,

its like asking you what's the Ford make like are they good, bad or ugly!

Collard.... depending what year like Ford they made some very nice cars, some not so good ones. Don't know if they copied the yanks or the yanks made it first but putting the butt spring on the slap rail is a pain that in the piano not the car

You need to pay a tuner to look at it as there is a lot of pretty boxes with strings in side, who some call pianos

Collards are in general very well made, but a complete pain to repair because unlike most makers who were content with using generic action components made by a third-party manufacturer, Collard insisted on making their own, so spares are difficult to find.

Proceed with caution. Ask the advice of a local tuner.

I did proceed with caution, and went to a tuner for advice and didn't buy the Collard. I've now done something very rash indeed..... more to follow later :)

Thanks again for your advice,

Nope! Ha, I'll keep you guessing! It arrives next Monday and I promise to reveal all by then, unless you make me crack in the meantime

If it's an Eavestaff Mini or a Lindner, we'll get your address from Barrie and send some nice men in white coats around, who'll let you try on a lovely back-to-front jacket...
