1849 A.Bord Paris #2340

We are in the process of breaking up my Mom's home as she now needs to live in assisted care. She has a piano that she had appraised in 1985, it says "A. H. Bord, antique upright piano #2340, Built 1849, $2,500" But the name under the key cover is either a fancy A or a K. Bord, Paris.

Could you tell me where to begin to know what it's worth and to sell it?

This is based on the published dates of serial numbers for Anton Bord's pianos, but these are neither accurate nor reliable. If you know how to remove the action safely (the working parts of the notes) it may be marked with the action maker's name and number, and we may be able to date this. I'm intrigued to know how you got the appraisal, we can't find anyone who dares to do this. Have a look at my comments about Victorian pianos on my website. Could you email some photos to me?

Having photographed the whole piano, unobstructed by dogs, stools, vases etc., lift the top, and there may be clips inside the top corners to release the top door (top front panel). Then, the fall (keyboard lid) may lift out, but don't force it if it is warped. The bottom door should come out with equal ease. Make a note of any numbers and other marks.
