Barratt & Robinson
Post by mrnickgreen »
Hello there. I was recently left a piano in my Grandad's will as I'd always loved tinkering on it when I was a small child.
I know nothing about piano's and was wondering if it was a well known piano maker and if, perhaps, the piano was valuable?
Before people contact me, I have no intention of selling as it will stay in the family but any help you could give me would be much appreciated.
The maker is Barratt & Robinson. It was made in London in 1878 so is 126 years old!
Thanks again for any help.
Nick.

The modern ones are better-known than they were in victorian times, but on what do you base the date? They were only established in 1877. Are any photos available?

There's a plaque on the front of the piano saying HONOURABLE MENTION, PARIS, 1878 and underneath it says BARRATT & ROBINSON 310a YORK ROAD LONDON.
I have photos, where should I e-mail them to?

You can press www below, or type "pianogen" in the address bar, or press email on my items in this forum.
Barratt & Robinson showed pianos at the Paris Exposition, 1878, and received an Honourable Mention for them, so they included this information on ALL their pianos for many years. See
