R. Gors & Kallmann

Post by georgecassar »

Hi, I have a Gors and Kallmann upright piano, that I have had since I was 15. It's made out of rosewood, has a serial number of 26749, has brass feet and was manufactured in Berlin for someone in Adelaide. I would like to know when it was manufactured. Where do I need to look for that date or can I provide information to help someone give me a date?

Thanks

George

Unfortunately, the published dates of their numbers don't start until 40,000 at 1908. I estimate that this number might be around 1896. If you know how to remove the action safely (the working parts of the notes) it may be marked with the action makers' name and number, and we may be able to date this.

Hi Bill

Thanks for a quick reply. I can have a look but I dont want to damage it. I have an idea of how it works, would the name and number be on the actual side of the key?

I'm thinking of getting a piano tuner cause it hasn't been tuned for years. Will ask him to have a look.

Thanks a lot again and will keep you posted.

I was talking about the action rather than the keys, but have a look at the Datemarks page at www.PianoGen.org

I am hoping the tuner would know where to look. If not I will just print a copy of these posts and the datemarks page of that website and show them to him.

Thanks a lot, you have been immensely helpful.
