Francis E Harold? when did they manufacture?
When did Francis E. Harold manufacture pianos? I bought an old cheap piano but it is extremely out of tune, has sticky keys and i think is much older than i thought. I have pictures at www.victoriaornelas.com/piano/piano.html
I'm assuming it was manufactured in London and sold at "A. Strachan - Arcade Music Warehouse in Galashiels" as stated on a very old looking piece of paper tacked right above the keys. the only numbers i can find are "3170" etched in the wood at the top of the strings and "29400" etched onto only the first two keys in the bass. Does anyone know when this was possibly manufactured? It has a pretty wood inlay on the front and two metal candleholders, that to me look kinda cheap, which is why i don't know if this is just some 1970's piano, or if it is indeed older.
thanks!

I have come across the name before, but haven't found a real maker called Francis E. Harold yet. Strachan first appears in our lists in the 1890s if that's any help. The numbers on the keys don't help. The sconces (candleholders) are about right for the piano, which would have been made shortly before the 1914 war. Have a look at the Datemarks page at www.PianoGen.org
