J&J Hopkinson Piano

Post by mrl43 »

I am in Massachusetts in the US and my family has a J&J Hopkinson piano. It's a small grand (approximately 5 feet long), and is completely inlaid. It's gorgeous. I'm less concerned with what it's worth than figuring out when it was made. Is there some way I can tell how old it is?

We have dates of Hopkinson's serial numbers, and judging by two of their pianos we have here, they seem about right... if you can find the number. They made some very decorative models, and some (like ours) which were quite ordinary.

The only number I could find on the piano was on the inside and it was 50004. I am not sure if this is the serial number, but it seems likely.

The number suggests 1893, a similar date to one of ours.
