CONUNDRUM! New Yamaha or (slightly) Used Yamaha??

Post by pianoLHR »

I'm in a situation where I'm torn between two pianos and I just don't know which to choose.

First, there's the new silent Yamaha U1 SG. I've got some quotes of £5500 including delivery and "preparation" from the online "stock-em cheaps" around the country.

Then, there's a four year old Silent U3 for £4000 nearby. and originally bought from one of the country's top reputation dealers.

I love the idea of saving money but still getting something with such a small amount of depreciation. If silent functionality weren't a requirement, I'd buy something refurbished and older I think, and put the savings back in the bank. The silent functions and features have allegedly improved and changed in the last year, but to what extent really? I don't know.

The used piano will require me to arrange and pay for the moving, plus the technician's time to go check it out, plus the tuning once it's moved, etc.

The new piano has the moving arranged, doesn't necessarily need the technician to inspect it before buying AND comes with the warranty.

Still £1500 is a lot of money to not spend.

I appreciate any thoughts anyone has.

You can have silent systems added to almost any piano.

Hi,

If you want to use MIDI or other voices, check which version of the silent option is fitted to the U3, as it may not necessarily be the SG.

See this thread, which includes a link to downloadable manuals from the Yamaha website:
