Bechstein upright 1901. Model 4.

Post by alastairbramley »

After thinking my previous topic "Steinway upright" will be too large for room size, I am now interested in a more compact Bechstein upright 1901, 120cms height, fully restored by local piano restorer. Piano is repolished, black casework, ivory keys and carries 5 year gaurantee. Please can anyone advise if this is more suitable to my room size and advise how Bechstein model 4 restore. Price £2850

Model 4s are dicey. They have a poor design around the break where the tuning pins are very close together. Most by now will have needed new planks, so if it hasn't got one I'd be suspicious.

That's a very low price for a restored one. Ask what has actually been done. Certainly the cost of a full restoration would be far more than this asking price. Rather than spotting a bargain, I'd be smelling a rat.

Thanks. The cost of a fully restored Bechstein would be in the region of £6000? So at this price the its probably not fully restored. Thanks for your advice.
