New Piano owners seeking help and advice!

Post by kaydee »

We have just taken delivery of a secondhand Young Chang upright piano.
I am not in any way a piano person as yet - we are hoping our children will be!
I have looked around this site, and have looked all around the piano to see any sort of information on Model no./type, serial number etc. can anyone help please!
Also, it was moved in by a removals firm today! and I wondered how long it should be left to "settle down" before we conmtemplate having it tuned - again, any advice please?
Then the next goody is regarding Tuning - how do I track down a good Tuner in my area?

The serial number in on the right above the tuning pins you will need to open the lid

It is better to leave the piano for 4 weeks in the new house to let it settle to the new environment

Piano tuners
Mr. R. D. Foster Tel:020 8427 1737 is very good he covers most of Hertfordshire or if he is to booked up you could try Ian Gabell Tel: 01727 855583 That’s if you can get him out of his workshop

Thanks for the speedy reply.
I've had a good look and the only things by the tuning pins are 2 'plates' - one saying Young & Chang, and the other U-121. There is a number - 0281388 stencilled on the very back of the piano, but I cannot see anything on the actual 'works' at all.
This may seem a silly question - as we have already bought it, but is this a reasonable piano?!!

Young Chang U-121 is in their professional range they are good piano for you to learn on and will last you many years. Searial number 0281388 would date it c1987

Your new tuner will be the best person to tell you if you have got a gem
