Wheelock Grand Piano

Post by davethepiano »

How do I remove the Fall on a Wheelock grand piano? It dose not seem to lift out and is not attached to the cheak blocks. There are two small appetures on the back edge. I can see the pins it pivots on down the sides. Is it just a case of a very firm pull? I didn't want to do this in case damage was caused.
Wheelock is a name used by Aeolian New York.

Undo the 2 key end blocks and they lift out with the fall. If you dont know what you are doing it might be best to get a tech in as it can get expensive if bits get broken in the action. If its just to get a couple of pencils out then just pop it back same way you removed it.

Fair enough, I had one once where the pins in the cheeks had managed to wiggle themselves along into the end of the fall through the brass plate. Therefore it couldnt be lifted out.

not that this is relevant to a wheelock (which i've never heard of) but my brodmann has a screw which attaches the fall to the slow close mechanism. I took the screw out though, and taped it to the underside of the piano, because my pencil keeps falling behind the fallboard. . . . and its a pain in the backside to get the screw out when i'm teaching! 8)
