Yamaha U1 or P121

Post by Claire »

Having decided to buy a new Yamaha. Which should I buy - a U1 or a P121?

U1 is more expensive than the P121 but I'm told that they are virtually identical instruments and that there is hardly any audible difference between them. So what am I getting for my extra cash.

Made in Japan.....

there is an audible difference between them. The P121 is softer, different Bass strings, different soundboard

but if you can't tell the difference why pay the extra

I isn't that easy - first of all because I can't locate the two pianos in the same shop and secondly because how a piano is voiced seems to make a big difference. So I suppose what I'm asking is whether the U1 and the P121 would sound similar if prepared the same way.

To do a side by side you may have to come up north or Chappells of Bond Street, there are other's

You can make them sound similar to a point but they have different wood for the soundboards quite a lot like the P121 over the U1 but just as many are the other way

At the end of the day they are both well made pianos and its down to which sounds best to you.
