Petrof 100 Sonatina --- any advice?

Post by jjmama »

I ask on behalf of my friend.

She would like to buy a second hand piano for her daughter. She is interested in the Petrof 100 Sonatina piano. It was made in 1986. The owner says it is in good condition and looks nice externally (from the photo). She hasn't tested the piano but considering whether it is worthy to have a look. How much would she expect to pay for this piano (private sale)? Can the piano play up to Grade 8? Is it a beginner's model?

I would be appreciated if anyone can give her some advice.

If you can get it for £200 to £300 or thereabouts it'll be reasonable value. They're not especially good pianos, and 1986 is not a good vintage. Grade 8 is a possibility on one of these depending on condition.

Having noted your post re 'piano for £500' I would add that no amount of prayer, however fervent will get one of these to play anything like as good as your bargain Kemble.

Get a local tuner to check it over rather than trusting in the Almighty.
