Age & finish of Smith & Barnes
I have a Smith & Barnes upright piano. I was told it was an upright grand & it has exposed strings at the top. The serial # is 67282. Does anyone know the age of this piano? Also, the finish is bizarre.. it is a beige-speckled finish on both piano & bench. What is this?
Thanks!

Th serial number suggests 1905, but never having seen your piano, I have no way of guessing about the finish. Upright pianos made with the strings intended to be exposed at the top are often shaped so that they slope downwards at the treble (right-hand) end, and some people call them "Harp Pianos" although this is not necessarily the right term, and various makers used their own terms. Could you email me some photos?
