Knight piano

Post by userchart »

I purchased a Knight upright piano about 2 years ago and I'm having a hard time determining it's age. Inside it says, "Made in England / This instrument has been specially manufactured for the American climate and is fully guaranteed". On the front it says that it was "Supplied by Murdoch-London". I live in Florida, USA. The person I bought it from didn't know much about it's origin but indicated that he had it approximately 10 years. It came with a bench and appears to have had a humidifier/dehumidifier installed possibly aftermarket. It has 2 pedals. My understanding is that Alfred Knight started production in 1936. Other than that I cannot find any information on it's age. Please let me know if you have a way of dating this piano. Thank you in advance. In addition, I can send photos if it is of a help. Jeff

Two pedals is the normal arrangement over here. If you look inside, you may find a serial number which we can date. Also, have a look at the Datemarks page at www.PianoGen.org

The only number that I can find other than the patents is 19361. After you lift the lid, it is located on the back right side. Could that be it or would it be a more complex number ? Thanks
