Charles Cadby Piano
Would like history of Charles Cadby (London) does not say &sons or Company).
exhibition gold medal seal shows no3,33,38&39 Liquor Pond St London
serial number is 14275 would like to know age and where we can find more historical information on this piano.
Also it is missing the orginal candlesticks where might I find orginal replacements.
Keys are ivory, face of piano has inlaid rose pattern in good shape, wood or finish appears to be rosewood.
any info you can supply would be appreciated. Would it be worth our while to restore the workings or will this ruin the value?
Thanks Jacksonville Florida USA

The number suggests that it may be from the late 1860s. In the UK, such pianos have very little value unrestored, but I can't speak for the States. Sconces (candleholders) cannot be obtained for individual models now, indeed they were often not standard on a given model, and customers could sometimes choose the style they wanted. It's a matter of luck what you can find in antique shops or on Ebay etc.. Have a look at my Reports page at www,pianogen.org
Any chance of emailing photos of it to our Piano History Centre?

Can you tell me more about the wording on the "exhibition gold medal seal", especially the year?

Thanks for the photos, this is a fairly plain, late example of a cottage piano, with hexagonal legs and trailing castors, probably from about 1880 or a little later. The reference to the 1862 exhibition shows that it was made after that event. Yet another example of published numbers being completely misleading!
