Nicolas Erard upright
Post by Toby daniel »
Hi there, I've got a Nicolas Erard upright piano with the insciption on the inside of the lid reading 'Nicolas Erard , Maison fondee en 1865 , PARIS, and a code on the inside reading 7426, also its black with guilded carvings. Just wondering if it was originally made in the Sebastian Erard Paris factory and if it's worth keeping and maybe getting it restored ?
Many Thanks

Nicolas Erard was established in Paris, 1865, according to his pianos. Our sources in France suggest that Nicolas originally spelt his surname in a slightly different way, and was not related to the famous Erards. His pianos are still around, but not up to the quality of the real Erards. The only other mention of Nicolas Erard I have found so far in textbooks is a vague reference to him in the Pierce Piano Atlas, with no details.
