Joseph Wallis & Son Ltd. piano

Hi, I don't know much about pianos but I have one that I am interested in selling, but of course people want to know the age etc. The only information I can give about it is that it is an upright piano, on the case it says "Joseph Wallis & Son Ltd. London" and "Sole Agents Hart & Churchill Ltd. Belfast", on the iron frame there is what appears to be a serial number: "12 9 19 W 1", and in the inside (above the strings) there are two handwritten inscriptions of "HC Ltd. 9014", which I have been led to believe is something to do with the tuning. Any information at all about this piano would be very much appreciated, sorry if I wasn't clear enough but as I said I don't know much about pianos!

Wallis & Son became Ltd. around 1889, and Hart & Churchill were probably not there until shortly after 1911. The mark on the iron frame is the date when it was cast, the piano was made within about 5 years of this date. See the Datemarks link at www.pianogen.org

9014 is Hart & Churchill's stock number.

Thanks Bill, would I be right in saying that the piano was made by Wallis & Son and sold by Hart & Churchill then?

Also, again I stress that I don't know much about pianos, this piano is in good condtion so is the fact that it is fairly old a good or bad thing for the value of it?

Yes, it would be a Wallis piano sold by H&C, value is impossible to guess without inspection.
