Hello,

I have just bought an Alderson & Brentnall paino @ auction, it is tuned and plays great and I'm very happy with it. My only concern is how old it is? I have removed the bottom panel and saw the frame had a crown and MXB Type 2 graved on, but I believe this is the factury stamp. There was also 28065 graved in the wood at the bottom right corner and schwander written on the action bar. Any chance someoen could help me? I'd appreciate if someone could give me what it's worth to.

I believe A&B were only dealers, have a look at the Datemarks link at www.pianogen.org

You say the age is your only concern, but value is impossible to guess from here.

Alderson and Brentnall were indeed a distributor. They had large premises at the top of Northumberland Street in Newcastle upon Tyne and went out of business probably in the 1970s. I have an Evestaff Minigrand from them, and they printed their name alongside the maker's name on the case. I will take photographs of the piano and post them on he appropriate place.

No, what I said was I beleive they were ONLY dealers, not makers.
