Most pianos are mass-produced with the same name, so we would need a bit more information to try to date it. Click on www below, and press some buttons.

Hofmann & Czerny were still around in 1961.

Czerny Practice piano

Post by michele80 »

:D Hell yall,
This is the first forum I have found that actually talks about Czerny Piano's. I have what i believe is his practice piano which he used to teach his students how to strengthen there fingers and to teach techniques with. It has been in my other halfs family since he was a kid and plays not a note. It was strictly used for practice. I have never seen anything like it nor do I know when it was made or how to appraise it. The serial numbers i believe have been painted over. A mistake My other halfs parents made when they owned it. My other halfs mother won this practice piano in a compitition in chicago when she was a piano teacher herself. My other half tells me that there were only 5 of them made. If anyone can help me find out how much this thing is worth and knows any history about this particular piano that would help me so much. thank you for your help. I didn't know where else to turn.

Czerny pratice piano

Practice pianos are not uncommon. Names of composers and famous musicians are very popular as aliases on pianos, Czerny is a name used on many american pianos, and there is apparently no evidence to support the idea that this was anything to do with Czerny himself. Always beware of the old line about "only 5 were made"!

Thank you bill for your reply. My other half also told me that his mother won it when she was 19 at Northwestern University around 1949. She was first pianist in her ochestra. They had invited all the first pianist from all over the world for the competition.she won this practice piano. That is what they told her at the competition She owned krane School of fine arts and knew alot about piano's. Her husband at the time was a jazz pianist and new alot about piano's. I understand that I should not believe everything I here but since it was in this particular situation with the reputation that nortwestern university has. I thought it might be true. I don't know that much about piano's and My other halfs mother has since passed on. I can tell by the way it was made that it is very unusual and old. If there is anyone out there who has one of these types of practice piano's that can help me find out about how old it is and it's value. I would be glad to e-mail you some photo's

Well, it certainly sounds convincing, so perhaps it is nothing to do with the other "Czerny" pianos. Yes, photos are always interesting.

I'm sorry if I sounded a little a matter of fact about the piano Bill. I do have pictures. I know for a fact that it does not say anywhere on the piano that it was made by Czeny but I know that his father was a technician and had developed Practice Pianos just for his sons teaching. I have learned more about his father Wenzel and about Carl's life as well. I thank you for your insite and your honesty but now I know that i must do alot more work in order to trace this particular Practice piano. I will send you the pictures tommorrow. Thank you for your support and help.[/list]
