I have a rogers upright frame number 0106. Can you give me a more accurate indication of date than "1876 or older", please?

it is in original working condition, just desperatly needs a tune.

Some questions:

1. Can I proceed to tune it (not been done since 1950)
2. Could this be one of the oldest examples of Rgoers around.

This piano has a beautiful unique sound and a very nice action.

George Rogers & Sons piano

Post by guy10 »

I have inherited my great grandmothers George Rogers & Sons piano.
She was given it by her parents for her 21st birthday in 1894.
The frame number is 12192.
Not sure if it was new or second hand then.
It is an upright burred walnut one.
It was brought over to NZ in 1908 and now is in our home in Riverton , Southenmost NZ.
It is missing its candle holders but still has the brackets for them. I would be interested in replacing them if possible.
There is some wood borer beetle damage to half a dozen of the bass keys but other wise in good condition.
Is this likely to be able to be sucessfully tuned again.
Last visible tuning 1973

trying to find my pianos history

Post by maggies79 »

ive got a George Rogers and Sons upright piano also. my parents bought it for me when i was 15.
lady who we bought it off said it was imported from the UK. its a beautiful looking piano, dark mahogany (i think) with nicely carved floral patterns on the front of it.
the inside shows a number, im guessing its the case number 12476. i cannot find any others numbers on it. it also says "Manufactured for H.Siebert, Southsea London

The number suggests 1884, but have a look at the Datemarks link at www.pianogen.org

Rogers was in London, Siebert was probably in Southsea.
