George Peachey
Post by chrisharry12345 »
We have a piano and are trying to find out a bit about it. The date, we believe, is approximatly 1879-1884.
Maker by appointment to Her Majesty
George Peachey 73 Bishopsgate Street Within, London
It's numbered WH 470 and it had a sticker, possibly where it was bought from?
Piano Specialist
C. S. Constance
52 Highstreet Ross on Wye
and
Highstreet Road
Kilburn
Any info would be much appreciated. Is George Peachey a well sought-after maker? Are his pianos usually valuable? thanks a lot,
Chris

according to Clinkscale they moved from Bishopsgate in 1866 so your piano is before 1866 or 1866
The number you have is not the serial number in 1832 numbers were around 1025
As to value it is getting in that age bracket that some collectors may show an interest but we are not taking big money yet as a playing piano not a lot

Martha Clinkscale is wrong. George Peachey was definitely at 73 Bishopsgate Within from at least 1838 to 1880, and probably finished in 1882, so the address does not help much with dating, although if it says "London EC" at the end, this would suggest something from the 1850s onwards. By 1860, he was at 72 & 73, but by 1880 he reverted to the single address. The numbers are not all in the same sequence, quite apart from the usual problems described in my Numbers link at pianogen.org so the number is not helpful either. Have a look at the Datemarks link at pianogen.org
