Steinway Model K & 'Vertigrand'

Post by sirprize »

What's the connection between the Steinway Model K and the 'Vertigrand' descriptive? Are they one and the same? Or what? Has anyone got any experience of these? I notice Piano Auctions have 3 Steinway uprights of these types in the sale this month. Any comments very gratefully received

I'm looking for a full-height upright for a pupil who has £2000 to spend immediately but would spend more to improve the piano over the ensuing months

Thanks

The Vertigrand evolved into the K.

Vertigrands are very old now, and the action rather quirky to work on. Not the best choice for a beginner, and pricey to maintain, a job which requires expensive Genuine Steinway parts and top quality patient workmanship.

Thanks PG but is the K a better bet than the older Vertigrand?

There are two amazingly expensive Vertigrands online: http://www.forsyths.co.uk/Rebuilt_Piano ... grand2.htm

I do wonder about Forsyths sometimes!
