murdoch & murdoch

Post by nobler »

i have a murdoch & murdoch "claremont"with a herrsberg brooks action(dont have the serial number of the action ) but the piano serial number is 288-79459 -(top left under lid) number 13003- has anybody got any idea of the age ? it still sounds great but i need to restore the action so any tips on restoration manuals and spares would be good too.

Although there are numbers published for Murdoch pianos, they aren't reliable, and can be quite misleading because the Claremont models are quite different. Have a look at the Datemarks link at pianogen.org

The Herrbuger Brooks action puyts it after 1919, but their serial numbers don't help either. I have to say that the thought of an unqualified person attempting piano repairs makes any technician with years of training shudder a little! Piano repair books assume that the reader is technically knowledgeable.
