Any information about Erard London? Do their business records exist? Where was the factory?

You'll find some brief references to the Erard, London numbers at the Numbers link at pianogen.org and I was also the first to publish these in Musician's Piano Atlas about twenty years ago. In 1792, Sebastien Erard set up a factory at 18 Great Marlborough Street. No archives are available for their London pianos, only Paris pianos and London harps.

Thanks Bill. How frustrating that there are no records. I have just bought the Erard concert grand posted on this website. When it is delivered I will see if I can find any date marks. Are you still collecting data? Are there any specialist restorers in Uk, like Maison Erard in Amsterdam?

I am always collecting data! It is always useful to find correlation between numbers and datemarks, and if you know how to remove the action safely, there should be a year imprinted on the lefthand end. We don't have specialised Erard restorers, what sort of work are you thinking of? And are you anywhere near East Anglia? It certainly is frustrating that the harp archives are there to taunt me, and the researchers in France, but there are no specific records surviving about Erard London pianos. What sort of information are you looking for? Email me.
