Info on Munt Bros
Post by karen munt »
Just to let you know that Munt brothers did in fact make their own pianos - we have archive photos of the factory and the workshop hanging on our wall!
My husband is the great grandson of one of the Munt brothers and we have quite a lot of old photos, catalogues, slides, press clippings etc about the company, for anyone who is genuinely interested.
Ant - maybe you are related to my husband?

We have been thinking of selling it and buying another piano, because that Munt would need quite much work done on it.
I'm doubting if we should sell it. I would love to have it repaired because it sounds and feels very special and nice (very clear sound and it is quite smooth and light to play).
What would you say? I'm quite interested in if it might be worth repairing and not getting a new one. The price of the repairing might go up to thousands of euros...

Nice to hear from you - I have only just picked up your message but its excellent to hear from someone on the 'other' side of the family ie the William side.
As you will see from earlier posts, we have various archive photos, documents, newspaper articles etc which I am happy to share with you if you are interested. We also have an extensive family tree, put together by a Munt relative from Australia who we have recently been in contact with.
I wonder if you might have any archive material or whether you may be able to fill in any gaps in the family tree, or answer some of our unanswered questions about the Munt family!
Hope you get this and we can maybe even meet up
Karen
It is a pleasure to meet you. I am very interested in any information you may wish to share. I am looking and hope to find in my house a little family tree my family had put together some time ago. The only information that I have off the top of my head is that my great grandfathers name was Gordon A. Munt. Look forward to hearing from you. Please feel free to contact me at antmunt@hotmail.com. Thanks Meg for all that you have shared as well.

Hi there,am so glad I came across this forum,Elmbeard wrote: ↑22 Oct 2011, 15:58 Another Munt descendant here. My paternal grandmother was born Lilian Munt on the Derek (?) side, not the William side. I was once a postman in the same town as my second cousin Malcolm Munt, who was a milkman at the same time, but we lost touch years ago.

I can confirm my great grandmother was also ‘Lillian Munt’
She adopted my father (the son of Lillian Jessie Hitchens)after his Dad passed in the war..
My Dad passed away during Covid (David Hitchens)
And while he was searching for his family history,He put together a booklet which is how I was able to find this thread
I would love to reach out to anyone else
