spam
It needs removing asap, I am not reccomending this site to customers at present as it reflects very badly.
Get rid or the problem will grow out of all proportion, give these people an inch... it really is no jokong matter and does need soting or the site could end up un-usable.

Is there anybody about who cares to remove it please?
Both Chris and I have been away, I think most of it has been fried but it is a pain we get a lot because the forum has quite a high PR in Google and you only need to relax for one day.

They have to give a real, email address which is verified this stops the robots. However, they who have nothing better to do use an anonymizer to hide behind and you can set up a temp email address in no time
When we changed over to verified emails that cut the spam out a lot, manly from the robots. Real posts dropped by quite a bit as well, having to wait for approval will put more users offDavid B wrote:Presumably the problem is in the system automatically accepting new registrations. I know other forums where all new registrations need to be approved by a moderator, so maybe this is the way forward?
More moderators is the way forward. In sep I will be away for 21 days trying out some grass skirts.

Its not rocket science you get a few extra buttons showing on post. You also have a moderator’s panel. The button are edit, delete and ip the ip gives you the ip of the poster in the panel you can move, split lock and delete on massOpenwood wrote:I'll be around in September if you need temporary moderation assistance (sounds like an ad for Viagra - see, that's what happens when I read too much spam).
I haven't the faintest idea what it entails but I'm happy to obey orders, meine fuhrer.
Manly it’s just deleting and moving the odd pots to the correct section. To date we have had only one person complain about aggressive post, which was in the teacher section and quite a wile ago
PM me if you are still interested or anyone else

They are robots if you notice they never post more than 12 post at a time as the flood ban kicks in I have now blocked the two main culprits IP address but I don’t like blocking ip address as it can stop real users in that region
I have put the domains that they keep posting in the bad word list
Sadly we have had two complaints from concerned parents who were viewing when some of the stuff was up there. Reporting these guys to their ISP is now a waste of time for a lot of far east ISPs

Why they do it? In some cases just spite or they are not all there, but with some it’s all to do with PR Page Rank. This forum is PR6 also it is very Search Engine Friendly and anyone who is trying to improve there PR will see that and try to use some of it by getting back links from the site
I am going to put some extra fields in which should by most I am going to put some extra fields in which should upset most robots without making it to hard for new and existing users

Tell us more of the proposed museum. Are you looking for exhibits?
By the way, I heard you have a collection of stuff found in pianos. What are your most interesting finds?
